On the 25th and 26th of January 2018 the Irish Family History Centre and EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum attended the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN) Conference in Citywest. The Education Expo at the conference is a fantastic way to connect with principals from schools all across Ireland, and a vibrant platform for sharing new ideas, new products and new experiences.
I [Claire Murray, Education & Outreach Officer] attended the conference with Chiara Pizzi, [Education & Marketing Executive, EPIC] to build awareness of both the Irish Family History Centre and EPIC’s multifaceted educational offering. We spoke to principals from around Ireland, all of whom were very enthusiastic to hear how we could enhance their pupils’ learning experience, and overall, make learning fun.
The Irish Family History Centre’s GENEius Project has gone from strength to strength, with more teachers opting for mixed-media, interdisciplinary and interactive learning experiences. GENEius breaks the cycle of rivalry between STEM and Arts subjects and paves the way for a smooth symbiosis between both fields, and EPIC pushes similar boundaries with its incredible merge of digital technology and rich cultural content. Both offer a new way to learn, a fresh way to look at identity and diversity, and a truly exciting way to discover.
