APG committee
The second APG Open-day in 2017 was in Limerick City, this writer’s home city.
Limerick Civic Trust hosted our group, who travelled by car, bus and train to attend.
After a tasty lunch at the Curraghower Bar, we strolled across to the Bishop’s Palace. This 500 year old building has been restored to the highest standards by Limerick Civic Trust. It was a wonderfully appropriate venue for our meeting.
In the afternoon we had two excellent speakers. Dr. Patrick Waldron, Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, explained genetic genealogy in comprehensible English. His main plank was that DNA testing is not a substitute for genealogical research, rather the two research approaches corroborate one another.
Our second speaker, Hiram Wood – the former President of the Civil Trust, introduced us to the recently gifted Parker-Carroll collection. The collection will form the key component of a new heritage centre opening 2018 in St. Munchin’s Church.

We finished the afternoon with a seasonal tour of St. Munchins church and graveyard, with appropriately ghoulish stories by David O’Brien of the Civic Trust.
