The HARP Society invite you to attend this year’s Interdenominational Service at the Church St Paul of the Cross, Mount Argus, Dublin 6W, at 2.30pm on Saturday 27 August 2016. The ceremony will consist of Old and New Testament readings and some appropriate liturgical music provided by the Garda Ladies Choir directed by Mr Rodney Baldwin and the Dublin Concert Band. The entire proceedings should last no longer than an hour and will be followed by some light refreshments nearby.
“For some years we have been commemorating the over 500 members of the RIC and DMP who lost their lives in the turbulent years from 1916 to 1922. The highlight of our year so far was our recent ceremony at the Cork Hill Gate of Dublin Castle on 24th April last to honour the first casualty of the Easter Rising – Constable James O’Brien from Co. Limerick. The highlight of that event was the presence of a young girl, Freya Connolly, the great grand niece of Sean Connolly of the Irish Citizen Army (who shot Constable O’Brien on 24 April 1916) who was there with her parents and who asked if she could lay a wreath on behalf of her family. It was a magnificent gesture by the Connolly family and totally unexpected and unplanned.”
At this year’s ceremony the will be reading the names of the 14 RIC men and 3 DMP men who were killed in 1916.
All welcome to attend this Event
