IrishGenealogy.ie now offers the civil records of births over 100 years ago, marriages over 75 years ago and deaths over 50 years ago of the General Register Office (GRO) to view online. This is a fantastic new resource for all family historians, negating the need for some trips to the GRO and allowing us to greatly speed up our own research. However, the site itself is not as well suited to searching large amounts of records, offering limited options to sort records, search for name variants or to search broad areas (like counties instead of registration districts). When trying to locate the birth, marriage or death record of a particular ancestor it can be a better idea to use other websites to search for a particular record or records and then to use IrishGenealogy.ie to view that specific record once identified.
